Liugui District is situated in a beautiful valley in northern Kaohsiung City, on the west bank of the Laonong River. It is a terrace of alluvial soil, running south to north, shaped like a long squash. The natural resources are extremely rich, with mountains and forests occupying 3/5 of the total area. The town has luxuriant forests and recreational activities as well as the largest number of hot springs among hot spring tourist areas in Taiwan. Liugui is also rich in farm products, including such famous specialties as Jinhuang mangoes, Black Diamond wax apples, Jinhuang Tea, red plums, and more. Since the Southern Cross-Island Highway passes through Laonong, Yuchun and Baolai, it is also convenient for travel.
