Soar up into the blue sky, enjoy a bird’s eye view of mountains and forest, and fulfill your dream of flying.

Saijia Aviation Park and landing ground have stable upwards air currents because of protection given by the Central Mountain Range. The first take off site is flat, mainly grade 1 slope, at an elevation of 85-135 meters. The second take-off site is higher, between 260-560 meters in elevation and paragliders can fly to heights of 1000 meters from here. Apart from scrub on the take-off platform the take-off site has no other obstacles. To the south of the site there are mainly south facing slopes, followed by west facing slopes and north facing slopes, with east facing the least. The special terrain offers panoramic views including a bird’s eye view of Yiliao Stream in the distance. From the air you can see out across the flat land for miles around, taking in views of crop fields, forest, streams and villages. The landing field is on a flat river plain near the mountain highway, making transport very convenient.

The flying season lasts from around December to March the following year and takes place from 10 am to 4 pm when air currents are usually conducive to stable flight. Saijia Aviation Park is Taiwan’s first and is the only paragliding venue in Asia where flying can be done in winter. Every year a large number of keen paragliders travel from the US, Australia, South Korea, Hong Kong and Japan to soar through the air here.
  1. Before flying be sure to join a flying association or club and attend a safety course.
  2. Check if you have all the basic equipment needed, fasten straps tightly and check the reserve parachute.
  3. Adjust your wireless interphone to the correct frequency and check if the quality of call is good.
  4. Acquire a good understanding of the flight route.
  5. When in flight avoid buildings, power pylons and other structures and follow these safety rules:
    (1) At all time pay attention to the situation around you, flight route and landing area.
    (2) When two paragliders meet head on both flyers should turn to the right. If there is an obstacle preventing one paraglider from doing this it can fly straight forward
    (3) When paragliders are in a top-bottom position the top one should give way to the bottom one.
    (4) When two paragliders are flying one behind the other the one behind should pay attention to the direction of the one in front.
    (5) When entering a thermal area the direction of the paraglider (s) that enters first should be followed
    (6) Beginner and intermediate paragliders should not fly faster than 15 kmh. Advanced paragliders should not exceed 25 kmh.
  6. Find the location of the nearest hospital and aid station before flying and know how to contact the emergency services.
  7. Things to avoid:
    (1) Do not fly in air space that is restricted by the government or in airport restricted air space.
    (2) Do not fly if equipment is incomplete or when weather and wind conditions are not suitable for flying.
    (3) Sufferers of heart disease, diabetes and chronic diseases that may affect flying ability should not fly.
    (4) Do not fly when fatigued, short of sleep, depressed or after drinking alcohol.
    (5) Do not fly alone:Do not perform stunts without the permission of your trainer.
