Question: Where can I find safety promotion materials and information before the whitewater rafting activities take place?

Answer: Before the whitewater rafting season begins, our administration provides the managers with some safety promotional pamphlets and produces a CD ROM for them to broadcast. The CD ROM provides essential information concerning what body ailments make a person unsuited for whitewater rafting, how to correctly wear a helmet and safety jacket, boat operating essentials, and how to handle an emergency. Our CD ROM explanation recording lasts for over four minutes.

Question: How do you handle cases concerning non-observance of the whitewater rafting rules or where the person has gone whitewater rafting without first receiving safety instruction?

Answer: In the above-mentioned cases, we will impose a fine ranging between NT$5,000 and NT$25,000, and forbid the offender from taking part in this activity. This is in accordance with Paragraphs 1 and 2, Article 60 of the Statute for the Development of Tourism. Those engaged in profit-making activities will be fined from NT$15,000 to NT$75,000, and will not be allowed to take part in the activity.

Question: How do you handle cases where the managers do not provide standard qualified lifesavers and lifesaving-boats during whitewater rafting activities?

Answer: We will impose a fine of NT$15,000 to NT$75,000, and forbid offenders from taking further part in this activity. This is in accordance with Paragraph 2, Article 60 of the Statute for the Development of Tourism.

Question: Can under-18s take part in the whitewater rafting activities?

Answer: They can, but in accordance with Paragraph 3, Article 13 of our administration’s Water Area Whitewater Rafting Business Management Regulations, there needs to be at least one person of 18-years-old or over in each rubber dinghy.
