2019-03-15

The romantic 2019 Austronesian Wedding – Love by Dawu Mountain (Masilid) will take place on March 15 & 16. Administration director Chien Ching-fa noted that this is the 14th year the wedding is held. This year, two couples from abroad registered for the event, including Mr. Kohashi Tadahiro and his wife. Kohashi’s father is Japanese and his mother is Paiwan from Majia Township. He grew up in Japan but has learned much about indigenous culture from his mother since little. Kohashi said that he has always been fascinated by indigenous traditions. His missed the wedding in the past few years and this year he can finally complete the big day of his life in the traditional way, while abiding by the cultural customs of his mother’s family. Another couple comes from Fujian Province of China. They learned about this event from a friend and decided to create some unforgettable, happy memory at the wedding.

Starting on March 2, every Saturday and Sunday at Rinari Visitor Center, an indigenous open market is held. Traditional Paiwan swings and children’s toys are there for people to enjoy, in addition to tribal handicrafts and food. DIY classes organized by 1n1 Indigenous Arts Studio are also available. Also, at Xinwei Visitor Center, a remarkable photo exhibition of the Austronesian weddings held in previous years will be open for three months. The organizer cordially invites all to immerse in the romantic aura of the Austronesian Wedding in northern Pingtung.
