Butterfly season inaugurated on Oct. 17 in Maolin

2020-10-16

It is time again for purple crow butterflies to spend the winter at Dawu Mountain. In early mornings, in Maolin Ecological Park, people can already enjoy the amazing scene of purple crow butterflies gathering up. To receive these “special guests” (butterflies), Maolin National Scenic Area Administration held an opening event of the 2020-2021 Season of Purple Crow Butterflies in Maolin on October 17, 2020.

The butterfly season (October - February) is a much anticipated annual winter event in eastern Kaohsiung. This year, the opening ceremony was led by Duona Elementary School Choir, followed by an impressive drumming performance by Beat of Kaohsiung. Visitors can also join a hiking/adventure game on their smartphones, by joining the Administration’s LINE@. Those who complete the game can get free gifts on a limited offer (200 gifts). There will even be an indigenous open market which serves indigenous picnic food at NT$350 per set, including chicken focaccia with aromatic litsea, quinoa salad, and quinoa tea. Discounts are available if you reserve the food online.

More butterfly-watching tours and cultural experiences will be available for reservation by the end of October. To register, visit Accupass and find “2020-2021 Season of Purple Crow Butterflies in Maolin.”
