The 18 Arhats Mountain Service Area, located by Provincial Highway 27A, was formerly the Liouguei Visitor Center before Typhoon Morakot struck the island. The Maolin National Scenic Area Administration recently refurbished the area’s wooden trails, adding indigenous features to them. Now the area also serves as the agricultural products display and sales center and the industrial exchange hub for the nine districts of East Kaohsiung (Taoyuan, Namaxia, Maolin, Jiaxian, Shanlin, Qishan, Meinong, Liouguei and Neimen). All visitors are cordially invited to spend some leisurely time at the service area, picking a wide range of goods, enjoying coffee, cold drinks and local food, or immersing in beautiful mountain and waterfall views. In the near future, Old Tunnels 4, 5 and 6of the Japanese Rule will reopen, and professional guides trained by the Forestry Bureau will take visitors to explore the sites across time and space.
