Maolin Scenic Area Administration and Pingtung Forest District Office work hand-in-hand to promote tourism and the "Flying over the Laonong River- Euploea butterflies Ecological Tourism Promotion"

The Euploea butterflies are one of only two overwintering butterflies in the world. From October to February, the butterflies fly south from northern Taiwan and arrive along the streams and valleys around Maolin District to escape the cold winter weather, not returning north until the next spring. During this period, Maolin area within the Maolin National Scenic Area is home to a huge number of Euploea butterflies.

The Maolin National Scenic Area Administration organizes annual butterfly watching activities during the wintering period of the Euploea butterflies, allowing the public to visit and enjoy this rare ecological wonder and promoting the development of related tourism industries around the attraction of the Euploea butterflies.

Maolin National Scenic Area Administration director Ke Chien-hsing says that other than Euploea butterfly season from October to February, the area is home to unique natural landscapes, Indigenous cultures, and ecological environments, making it an excellent place to visit.
