All visitors are treated to the spectacular views of the rolling hills upon entering the Dewen community. Standing at an altitude of 800 meters, the Dewen community integrates local characteristics with indigenous Rukai culture, and houses Guanwang Mountain trail, Dewen Hunter School, and Delai Park. The entire community has an area of approximately 1,560 hectares. The meandering mountain paths leading up to the community offer scenes of the valley and steep cliffs. When winter comes, the entire mountain is decorated with blossoms that bloom one after the other, from Chinese plum to cherry blossoms and plums. The mountain is painted in a sea of mesmerizing colors. On the other hand, the decaying century-old sea fig tree in the village is also being restored back to health. Indigenous artifacts can be seen throughout the Dewen community that consists mostly of the Paiwan tribe; said artifacts include stone slab houses, chairs, and totems. Since the area follows regulated mountain entry, an entry permit has to be obtained. Dewen community’s indigenous totems and installation arts integrate the nature with local culture, and visitors can learn about indigenous culture while enjoying the naturalistic scenes. Note: A Type II Mountain Entry Permit is required for entering the Dewen community. Relevant process can be carried out at San-De Police Inspection Checkpoint.
