2019-01-04

“2019 Austronesian Wedding - Masilid, Love by Dawu Mountain” will kick off on March 2, 2019 in Majia Township, Pingtung County!

In its 14th term, the Austronesian Wedding will be hosted by Majia Township Office this year. This event is not to be missed for visitors who want to take a deep look at indigenous wedding culture. Brides and grooms who wish to have a unique wedding are especially encouraged to take part - traditionally, such a wedding can only be enjoyed by Paiwan and Rukai chieftains and aristocrats.

The Austronesian Wedding brings the wedding traditions of the indigenous blueblood to life. From sending firewood as proposal gifts, setting up swings for the wedding, sending engagement presents, to finally holding the wedding ceremony, every rite is carried out at the Austronesian Wedding. The participating brides and grooms can expect to enjoy an authentic indigenous wedding. Visitors can also develop more understanding of and respect for Taiwan’s indigenous culture, through the side events and package tours held.

The subheading of this year’s wedding is “Masilid, Love by Dawu Mountain.” Inspired by Beiye Village’s mythologies and ancient rites while following Paiwan traditions, presenting of engagement gifts, a sedan-chair parade, and a swing ceremony will all be held to pave way for the brides and grooms’ life-long happiness. The highlights of the 2019 Austronesian Wedding, “night of the newlyweds” and the “main wedding ceremony,” will take place respectively at Beiye Activity Center on March 15 (Friday) and Beiye Elementary School on March 16 (Saturday), 2019.
