Taiwan Aboriginal Culture Park

The Taiwan Indigenous Peoples Cultural Park can be found in Beiye Village of Majia Township in Pingtung. Formerly the Majia Cultural Village, the Cultural Park was established in 1985 and covers an area of 82 hectares, where Paiwan and Lukai communities can be found in the adjacency. The Cultural Park aims to present and preserve Taiwan’s indigenous culture and is said to be the largest outdoor indigenous museum presenting the greatest research value in Taiwan.

Spanning across 145 to 220 meters above sea level, the Cultural Park features rugged terrains and diverse landscapes. It is divided into four main areas: the Greeting Area, the Tamaluwan Area, the Naluwan Area, and the Fuguwan Area. Tamaluwan and Fuguwan are two areas where traditional indigenous architecture and the full view of tribal life are on display. The Naluwan Area is where visitors can enjoy dynamic performances. The place features performance halls, an amphitheater, and a museum home to sculptures of ten indigenous tribes. There is also a place where people can participate in DIY workshops to make indigenous handicrafts.

The Cultural Park also has a hiking trail, allowing visitors to climb to a higher ground where they can look across the whole park, spotting houses made of slate stones, bamboos, and logs scattered in the lush green forest below, which is decorated with random sculptures that keep track of the development of local indigenous culture.

Visitors are recommended to spend three hours here to explore the park by taking the shuttle bus between different areas. They are also recommended to watch performances put on by indigenous people.

The park is open Tuesday through Sunday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, including national holidays. The park is closed on Mondays.

Admission：
- Adults: NT$150.
- Students, military personnel, and police officers ticket: $80. - Groups with more than 30 persons receive a 20% discount. - For handicapped citizens, senior citizens over 65 years old and young children under 110 cm admission is free. Hours for Aboriginal Traditional performance: Every Tuesday through Saturday 10:30 am, 3:00 pm.

Driving:
National Freeway No. 3 exit at Jiouru Interchange, follow Taiwan Provincial Highway No. 3 & 24, through Pingtung City to Shuimen and follow the signs and turn right to reach the destination, and the whole journey is about 34 km.

Great place to get a taste of the indigenous tribes of Taiwan. Lots of DIY and performance art. If you’ve been before, check it out again, they built new and remodeled the indoor exhibit areas. If you want a car parking spot close by go early, if not it’s a bit of a hike (or just take a scooter or bus). Great food options and low entrance fee plan to spend a minimum of a half day, if not longer. Very English friendly. A must go if you are in this neck of the woods.

We decided to do a day trip so we took the HSR from Taipei to Zuoying station (1.5 hrs) then rented a car to drive there (1hr). Great place to learn about the indigenous peoples of Taiwan. The singing and dancing performance was definitely the highlight of the day. Show times are 1030, 1400 and 1600. The show alone is already worth coming! We also got to try indigenous food, wrapped glutinous rice roll at the end of the tour just outside the park. What a nice finale to the trip!

This is a very beautiful place to spend the day with the family and kids. There are a lot of activities and history to learn from. It's very touching to see the great job these people are putting in to keep up these traditions. There are different food stands options. The place is well maintained as well. The staff are very friendly and polite. I was lucky to meet a volunteer that was helping out and he could speak English. I advise to arrive to this place as early as possible since maybe one day won't be enough to see its full potential. Finally, be prepared to fall in love with all the art crafts for sale here.

Worth the visit. My second visit to this place was for the 30th anniversary of the village's annual festival in July. As part of the festival, there were a lot of food/drink booths and aboriginal hand-made stuff were sold. Black bore BBQ was delicious! As they are known for their musical talent, we enjoyed performances. We had coffee at the 雷叔咖啡 inside the building near the entrance; coffee was very smooth and the staff was very friendly. They sell coffee beans as well. On my first visit, we went up the mountain to enjoy the scenery. Went into a cafe to drink 愛玉.
