It was a martyrs’ shrine in the Japanese colonial era, but transformed into a park after the Restoration in 1945 (return of Taiwan to China). This is the place you cannot miss out. The wall is decorated with 60 stone tablets on which the images of Deinagkistrodon, also called Hundred-pace snake, were carved. You will read the myths and histories of the tribe from the carving. Four things to do in Zhongshan Park: Take photographs of the three treasures of Taiwan: glass beads, earthenware jar and bronze knife, passed down in aborigine families from generation to generation. Taste Dewen coffee, which was the tribute to one of the emperor of Japan. Dewen coffee was selected the silver award in the world contest. Enjoy the performance of Paiwan song and dance. You will be refreshed by beautiful voice, rhythms of the nature and the free spiritedness and energy of aborigines. Take a look around the Cultural Hall and view the products of the Paiwan’s enthusiasm for artistic creativity. Learn the story of mysterious old glass beads and the essence of aborigine wood caring. Don’t forget to try some local products, such as mountain tarot, lentil beans and millet dew.
