    Maolin Visitor Center

►Address: No. 2, Dajin Neighborhood, Liouguei District, Kaohsiung City
►Tel: 886-7-6801525
►Service hours: 08:30~17:30

Maolin is the least populated district in Kaohsiung. It is inhabited by only three tribes, covering 394 square kilometers of land. Although not many people live here, Maolin has strikingly beautiful mountains and rare meanders; in addition, it includes the Purple Butterfly Valley, which is one of the only two butterfly overwintering sites in the world.

Beside the Dajin Bridge, the entrance to Maolin, is the Maolin Visitor Center that is adapted from an old dormitory previously used for compulsory military service and that is now managed by the Maolin National Scenic Area Administration. The center not only offers general tourist information but also invites visitors to create customized scenic e-postcards through a state-of-the-art interactive tour-guide computer. The postcards may be sent to the visitor’s own email addresses, or printed out on site to be shared with family and friends. There are also explanatory displays of Maolin’s topographical changes after Typhoon Morakot, the three industries of Maolin, and the secrets of purple butterflies that spend the wintertime in this southern region annually. Visitors can learn about all aspects of Maolin here.
