He noticed that, in the area between Xinwei and Erpo, people tilled dry lands. This suggested that the place lacked water for irrigation. After observing the area, Huang rode a buffalo to Erpo and built an irrigation channel with villagers to bring water from Laonong River in. Nearly 20,000 hectares of land in Xinwei could receive sufficient water from then on, and everyone enjoyed a good farvest. To thank Huang for his contribution, the locals named the channel “Xian-ren Channel,” and built the shrine to remember him.
