During the Japanese Rule, to facilitate transport for the camphor oil industry, the Japanese started building the first tunnel in 1927 which would go through the 18 Arhat Rocks. Till 1943, due to the war, the Japanese decided to move their resources, including machineries, to Liugui, and as a result more tunnels must be ready soon. However, there was no room for expanding the fifth tunnel anymore, and its exit might topple any time. A sixth channel was therefore constructed, whose walls were rugged throughout.
