3.92026 Scenic Area Notice: Lover's Valley Suspension Bridge is currently temporarily closed. The reopening date will be announced separately after repairs are completed by the Maolin District Office, Kaohsiung City.
This valley landform, called Tbaru in the Rukai language, is characterized by a deep gorge carved by a tributary of Zhuokou River and clear running water. It is a scenic area that combines a waterside trail with opportunities for nature observation, composed mainly of a continuous waterfall group and cliffside vegetation. The abundant mist created by water striking the rocks keeps the valley humid and cool year-round.
Lover's Valley Waterfall consists of five tiers of cascades. The surrounding slopes are covered with primary forest, and ferns thrive among the shaded rock walls. At present, the trail reaches only the first and second tiers at the end of the route, while the source lies at the uppermost tier and is difficult to access because of the terrain. Lover's Valley Waterfall is located in Maolin District, Kaohsiung City. Because southern Taiwan receives less rainfall in winter, the waterfall becomes truly spectacular only in summer, when water flow is abundant.
After crossing Lover's Valley Suspension Bridge, follow the signs on foot to reach the waterfall entrance, where you can see the first tier right away. In summer, visitors can feel the refreshing mist up close and escape the heat. Continue up the stair trail to reach the second-tier waterfall, viewing platform, and pavilion. This area is long and open in outlook, making it well suited for photographing the water plunging straight downward.
Near Lover's Valley Suspension Bridge is Maolin Lover Gorge Hot Spring(Currently closed). This hot spring features sodium bicarbonate water with a smooth texture, offering visitors a different experience in winter from what they find here in summer. When planning your itinerary, it is recommended to combine this site with Purple Butterfly Ecological Park and Maolin Visitor Center for a half-day exploration route through the low-elevation mountain area.
