2025-2026 Maolin Purple Butterfly Valley Biennial Butterfly Beauty Festival

Line in the needs of butterfly-watching tourists, the Maolin National Scenic Area Headquarters organizes a biennial butterfly-watching series of activities from November to March of the following year. It provides interpretation services at the entrance of the Maolin Ecological Park to help the public understand the migration and wintering ecology of the purple crow butterfly.


The headquarters' official website also provides live video broadcasts of purple crow butterflies so that tourists who cannot visit the site can watch the world-class butterfly landscape remotely. Since Maolin is a Rukai tribe, the headquarters also plan a butterfly-protection market and cultural performances that combine local characteristics during the activities. Besides appreciating purple crow butterflies, tourists visiting Maolin can visit the market and watch performances to experience the rich Rukai cultural atmosphere.

• Payment method: Free of charge (a refundable deposit is required). Registration is online only. Each child must be accompanied by one parent. The deposit is NT$500 per person, so one child + one parent is NT$1,000 per group. The deposit will be refunded on the day of participation.
• Target participants: Online parent-child registration (including one parent and one child, with the child's birthday before September 2016).

Note: The child must be at least in Year 4 or 5 of elementary school (the ideal age for participating in the butterfly mark-release activity).

Each experience activity consists of 30 morning sessions and 30 afternoon sessions, for a total of 60 sessions.
