Ashitaba

Ashitaba is called “tomorrow” in Chinese because if you pluck its tip today it will grow a new bud tomorrow. It has become very popular in the past few years. Abundant in germanium and vitamin B12, ashitaba is claimed by some people to help prevent cancer growth and promote circulation.

Granadilla

Passion Fruit is a popular fruit rich with vitamins and organic acids. The sweet and sour savor of passion fruit is said to resemble ten other fruits combined. It is served as iced passion fruit juice and other cool foods for hot summers. Taoyuan Township produces passion fruit at Jianshan Village. The area under cultivation is not large but the quality is high. The vendors at Baolai sightseeing area are not bad at all; so don’t forget to try the fresh passion fruit juice of Jianshan!

Tianshan Snow Lotus (Herba Saussureae Involucratae)

Tianshan snow lotus is a perennial herbaceous plant. Its crispy, sweet taste is a little like Asian pears. It was named Tianshan snow lotus, a name of mystery, to catch consumers’ attention. It is watery and low in calories. It can improve the healthy bacteria in the GI tract and is very effective in treating constipation.

Liouguei Mountain Tea

Jianshan in Sinfa Village, which is at the tail end of the Central Ridge, is the major source producing Liouguei mountain tea. The tea gardens are located about 800 to 1200 m above sea level; some of them are even higher than 1500 m. The average temperature is between 18 and 24°C. The humidity is between 75 to 85%. The village is surrounded by fog and clouds all year long. Its soil is composed of volcanic slate and vermillion mud. Overall, the environment is excellent for growing tea. A highly effective irrigation system is also used.

Corn

Our society has more and more demand for sweetcorn as it becomes more and more westernized.  In Taiwan, corn can be harvested annually.  It has a short growing period and can be incorporated into crop rotation schedules easily. It also has high economic potential in the future.
